We are looking for a consultant to Support Video Content Development

iKnowFarm is a mobile Application designed to empower smallholder farmers in Uganda through data-driven, climate-smart agricultural solutions. To support our mission, we seek to develop high-quality agroecology content for the iKnowFarm mobile app to promote sustainable farming practices.

Objective

To support video content creation for users of iKnowFarm App.

Scope of Work

The Video Production Consultant will:
• Develop video concepts aligned with iKnowFarm App’s content strategy.
• Produce engaging, easy-to-understand videos for farmers, optimizing scripts for low-literacy audiences using visual storytelling (e.g., step-by-step demonstrations, farmer testimonials, animations).
Ensure content is:

  • Mobile-optimized
  • Accessible in low-bandwidth areas
  • Conduct on-location filming (farms, cooperatives, events) in target regions.
  • Implement multilingual support through subtitles/dubbing (e.g., Lugbarati, Arabic, Madi, Luo, Ateso, or Luo).

Optimize videos for:

  • Vertical (9:16) and horizontal (16:9) formats
  • iKnowFarm App and social media platforms

Incorporate:

  • iKnowFarm branding guidelines
  • Intro/outro templates
  • Accessible design elements (e.g., clear graphics, text overlays)

Deliver technical specifications:

  • Format: MP4 (H.264)
  • Resolution: Maximum 1080p (with 480p/720p options)
  • File size: <50MB per video for low-data users

Qualifications

  1. Ability to work in an ethical work environment.
  2. A minimum of two (2) years of practical experience in similar assignments in rural settings is required.
  3. Proven expertise in developing agricultural content for digital platforms or extension services.
  4. Familiarity with Adobe design apps such as Premier pro, aftereffects, Photoshop.
  5. Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including farmers, government, research, academia and NGOs.
  6. Experience in photography is an added advantage
  7. Knowledge of local languages (e.g., Lugbarati, Arabic, Madi, Luo, Ateso, or Luo) is an advantage.
  8. Ability to ride a motorbike will be preferred
  9. Competent female and refugees are highly encouraged to apply

Duration of the contract

This contract will run for six (6) months (August– January 2026) renewable based on performance and fund availability.

Reporting and Coordination

The consultant will report to the iKnowFarm Project Manager.

We are looking for a consultant to Support Agroecology Content Development

iKnowFarm is a mobile Application designed to empower smallholder farmers in Uganda through data-driven, climate-smart agricultural solutions. To support our mission, we seek to develop high-quality agroecology content for the iKnowFarm mobile app to promote sustainable farming practices.

Objective

To develop, review, and refine agroecology contents for the iKnowFarm App, ensuring alignment with sustainable and regenerative agricultural principles, user needs, and project goals. The content shall be in text, video, animation or picture coded manual which are suitable for low-literacy users.

Scope of Work

The Agroecology support consultant will.

  1. Assess and review existing content for scientific and practical accuracy, relevance, and alignment with agroecology principles, recommend, and make improvements where necessary.
  2. Facilitate community meetings & Key Informant Interview to identify new priority agroecology practices to develop for the App.
  3. Create evidence-based, user-friendly content on agroecological practices, including crop diversification, soil health management, agroforestry, pest control, and water conservation, tailored to smallholder farmers in the target project areas incorporating local crops, soils, and climate considerations.
  4. Support prototyping of the content to demonstrate agroecology features, technologies focusing on nutrition, soil fertility, water conservation and sustainable farming techniques.
  5. Support the videographer to ensure quality video or pictures are captured from the community for content development.
  6. The consultant will work with the iKnowFarm content committee, field agents, and partners to validate the content.
  7. Coordinate with the iKnowFarm Product Manager to ensure the content is available in multiple local languages and optimized for offline use.
  8. Any other duties that may be assigned by the management from time to time.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or related field as well as specialized training in training and communication, and passion in fine art or animation will be an added advantage.
  2. A minimum of two (2) years of practical experience in similar assignments in rural settings is required.
  3. Proven expertise in developing agricultural content for digital platforms or extension services.
  4. Familiarity with Ugandan smallholder farming systems.
  5. Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including farmers, government, research, academia and NGOs.
  6. Strong writing skills
  7. Experience in generating picture coded content is an added advantage
  8. Knowledge of local languages (e.g., Lugbarati, Arabic, Madi, Luo, Ateso, or Luo) is an advantage.
  9. Ability to ride a motorbike will be preferred
  10. Competent female and refugees are highly encouraged to apply

FROM CHALLENGES TO SUCCESS: JOSEPH’S FARMING TRANSFORMATION

Joseph, a resilient refugee from the Imvepi refugee settlement, once faced numerous challenges in farming. His primary crops, maize, and sorghum, struggled due to the long maturity period and frequent floods from the nearby river. The best agricultural support software of the year 2023/2024 – The Africa prestige awards Dubai

iKnowFarm, a leading mobile application that provides agricultural extension services and digital literacy training to small-scale farmers in Uganda and beyond, has recently participated in The African Prestige Awards 2023/2024 held in Dubai at the Raffles Hotel. The mobile App emerged as the best agricultural support software of the year, winning recognition for its innovative product that teaches farmers the best sustainable farming techniques and provides extension services. The award was received by iKnowFarm’s product manager – Muhumuza Grace, who was thrilled to see the hard work of the team recognized at such a prestigious event.

The Award Ceremony

The African Prestige Awards is an event that celebrates African excellence in different industries, including agriculture. The event is attended by leading industry experts, policymakers, and business leaders from across the continent. This year’s ceremony was held in Dubai at the Raffles Hotel, and it saw several companies and organizations compete for recognition in different categories.
